I heard that the word "lipart" is from Laz. Maybe the personal name Liparit comes from that, I don't know. I believe it was the linguist Ajarian who wrote that that name came from Georgian into Armenian about a thousand years ago. When the meaning of Liparit is discovered, we may be able to see if they are related.

We had some people in our village with first name Libar. Do you think there is any connection?

"Libar" should be the minifying of "Libarid".
I think, while our ancestors used names like gayl (wolf), arriutz (lion), artziv (eagle), may be used as a surname, libart too, a metonymy to this predator animal.
We know the relation between laz and georgian languages. Ajarian says we took this name from georgians, as well as laz use this as name for jackal.
May be "jackal" (libard), didn't sound bad in this era among these people as it sounds bad in Turkish language (çakal).

In Russian to call somebody a "jackal" (шакал) is a major offense.
Probably same for Armenian environment, so I tend to think that personal name Libar probably originates from some other root...
By the way, we call jackal -- ղըյապ (ghiyap), if I remember correctly.
Artsiv -- yes, we have a few people with that name in our village.

I believe the Hopa Hemshinli also use khiyap for jackal.
