Hi there.Barev bolorin.
I'm very glad to find this forum, as I'm very interested on Hamshen.
I decided to write the first time just in this theme to activate this theme.
It's realy seems very beautiful dialect or may be language.

About me.
I'm an armenian from Armenia, and currently live ther.
I have no connection with Hamsheni Armenian, but as a true armenian patriot, very and very interested on it.

Thanks.

LaLa wrote:How do you say "rain" in hamshenhayren ?

In our Janiktsi dialect (in Turkish they write it "Caniktsi") we call rain "vraeg", probably from "vrayen (=verevits) egogh". I think Hemshinli call it "chaxs", but I can't tell where this word comes from...

:D
You will laugh at this, but "hast" in our dialect means ... fat!.. Maybe he misspelled the word, I think it is actually "hats"
I read one of the banners on Hopanin Sesi website which says ka, hatse shidag perna!: hey (girl), hold the bread properly!
Maybe this mysterious phrase has a deep meaning, I don't know, but it sounds funny.

funny how that transformation happens...

hasigun <-- has + irigun <-- a(y)s ereko

epetser, kaletser, vaxetser in our dialect would be epetsir, kaletsir, vaxetsir

And one more note: it is not spagetti, it is MAKARNA!!!

One thing that I think hagop noticed here once is that when we talk about dialect, there may be some things identified as common words or phrases, but it is not a well defined set of rules. And nobody can claim that they understand 100% of any dialect: we may understand some things, but not everything. Please keep in mind that dialects have sub-dialects, sub-sub-dialects etc.
