Well, none of us can say that he knows everything about our culture and people. That's the purpose of this forum to share what we do know.
Hope you find this forum interesting.
As you noticed, we have many languages here, a few of which you may know, but probably not all of them at same time (I'm yet to meet that lucky person).

Dear Hemshinians, I have a question. I am from Çinçiva, the only Hemshin village as far as I know where people's last names end with "anç". Does anybody happen to know anything about it?

And a kindly warning to some Rize Hemshinians. There is no town called Çamlıhemşin. It is an official name given to Aşağı Vidze by the state some 50-60 years ago. There is only one hemshin in Rize. So it's not proper to say there are good relations between Hemshin and Çamlıhemşin.

It is funny to note, at the same time, the notion of Christian Hamshetsi (living today in Abkhazia and Russia) instead of using last name as other Armenians (with "yan" or "ian") we prefer (at least in older generations) to use last names differently:
For example, Topal Ardash (instead of official "Topalyan Ardash")
Avci Suren (instead of "Avcan, Suren")

To give you an idea:

Official Name (ficticious) How we would say it

Seferyan Xachig => Safar Xachig
Meletyan Melik => Malatsi Melik
Zebelyan Ardash => Zebil Ardash
Keshyan Margos => Kashchi Marges
Cholakyan Arut => Chologhli Arut
Chuvaldjan Bedros => Chvalci Bedres
Melkonyan Sahak => Melkon Sahag
Ican Gevork => Ici Kivor
Delyan Vartush => Dali Vartush

Note: some Armenian last names of non-Hamshen origin would be really hard to squeeze into this form of prononciation. Only Hamshen Armenian names seem to be "convertable" like that
