"Libar" should be the minifying of "Libarid".
I think, while our ancestors used names like gayl (wolf), arriutz (lion), artziv (eagle), may be used as a surname, libart too, a metonymy to this predator animal.
We know the relation between laz and georgian languages. Ajarian says we took this name from georgians, as well as laz use this as name for jackal.
May be "jackal" (libard), didn't sound bad in this era among these people as it sounds bad in Turkish language (çakal).
